Abstract
The aim of this chapter is to provide an overview of embryological, fetal and developmental anatomy and physiology of the cardiovascular system; and the types, causes and management of cardiovascular disorders in infants and children. The content of this chapter will focus primarily on the most common causes of congenital, inherited and acquired heart disease likely to be encountered by children’s nurses. Assessment and nursing management will be considered utilising the current evidence base within the context of family centred care.
