Abstract

This session will involve sharing of perspectives on ‘Principles and Purpose, Pedagogy and Possibilities for Practice.’ It will be based upon personal reflections and creativity in the design, selection and deployment of Case Studies. It will give emphasis to the efficacy of the approach, both current and potential, to impact upon students’ opportunities to apply and integrate their discipline-based knowledge and skills in authentic and meaningful ways. Personalisation, engagement and making connections with research and professional practice are worthy challenges in design for teaching, learning and assessment and proved some of the most challenging aspects for universities to report on in relation to the Teaching Excellence Framework Criteria in institutional written submissions. It is suggested that deployment the Case Study and related approaches to real-world scenarios goes a long way to impacting on development of these, arguably, key components of university education. It is hoped that the input and personal reflections on teaching will assist in expanding the repertoire of classroom practices and sensitise our antennae for engagement with the topics that follow as the conference progresses.
