Abstract
This chapter reports on research carried out in England, UK into composing with computers in schools. The purpose of the research was to investigate what the mediating factors were when pupils composed with computers in the classroom. To realise this, a multimodal methodology was employed that enabled pupils’ learning to be viewed from a range of perspectives. It is hoped that the findings from the research will help teachers and curriculum designers create more effective designs for learning.
An overview of composing in the classroom is presented, followed by the background to the study, the methodology and the methods employed. The findings are then presented and the chapter concludes with recommendations for practitioners.
