Abstract

This chapter acknowledges the social and emotional demands of studying in Higher Education and reframes those demands as opportunities for personal development.
Parallels are drawn between the theoretical framework and value base underpinning the current H.E. learning environment and that of Early Childhood Education and Care pedagogy (ECEC) in the UK.
The dispositions, skills and attitudes that the learning environment of the EC student at HE level is designed to engender are linked with those of an outstanding practitioner in ECEC.
Challenges in both the social and emotional arenas are linked to strategies enabling the optimisation of self-efficacy.
