Abstract

Flying Start NHS® is a web based development programme, aimed at supporting newly qualified nurses, midwives and allied health professionals (NMAHPs) through their first year of employment. The programme aimed to support new staff in their transition from student to effective practitioner, and build their confidence during their first year in post, through a structured programme of online work packages, and an associated mentoring scheme. An evaluation of the programme found different levels of engagement and completion between professions and NHS Boards in Scotland. Difficulties in completing the programme were due to competing pressures within work time, the technicalities of the system, and the need for further support. This project set out to evaluate the key characteristics which support successful completion of the learning outcomes of Flying
Start NHS® development programme for newly qualified NMAHP practitioners.
