Abstract

Grassroots football league rules are rather strict in terms of when a team can postpone a fixture. Number of players and pitch conditions are amongst the most common rules for cancelling a game. Number of players has additional connotations for the health and safety of the remaining team members though. Being forced to play a fixture with 9 players vs a full 11 plus subs might increase injury risk or adversely affect those coming back from injury through pressuring them into playing the full match time. This article looks at the rules and the impacts on players.
